- Kento Momota, a former world number one, participated as a guest in a badminton tournament for elementary school students held in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, and interacted with the children.
This tournament has been held by the Isesaki City Badminton Association since last year, with the aim of giving children who are passionate about badminton the opportunity to dream big by interacting with top athletes.
Momota has been active as Japan's ace, winning the World Championships in men's singles for two consecutive years since 2018 and maintaining his number one world ranking for three years.
During a talk show held in the middle of the tournament, Momota gave the children some advice, saying, "The key to improving is to practice hard every day, watch a lot of matches, and imitate the good players."
Afterwards, exhibition matches in doubles and singles were held, where he played against elementary and junior high school students.
Momota enjoyed interacting with the children, actively calling out to his doubles pair.
In singles, he played against a junior high school student who had won the prefectural newcomer's tournament, showing off his professional skills, including feints and powerful smashes.
