Once again, ZUN is confusing people with his odd time signatures.

Probably it's intentional because nobody could predict koishi
And BPM Changes
@@Dwarfplayer Satori Koishi is a youkai who can read people's mind and thoughts, including youkai and other beings. However, this ability makes others hate Koishi for reading their mind and thought, thus Koishi eventually seal away her third eye. But, by doing this she also shutting down her consciousness, and eventually Koishi only existed in subconsciousness. With this, others have forgotten about Koishi's existence. Only people who had met with Koishi first before she shut down her own consciousness remember her.

Jerod actually did extremely well drumming to this (amazing) song blind, not knowing the time signatures. Speaking of the music itself, the transition between the beginning chaotic portion of the track to the massively tonally different part is done well, and the key change that goes back to the chaotic portion using a pivot chord is just great, the way how ZUN combines there musical ideas is so interesting.

It can be hard if you don't know this. (?)
This is the power of koishi - confusion bc she pushes a book in invisible mode and you Go “what the hell was that” and you say isa ghost

8/8 and 4/4 are technicly the same thing, but we never write 8/8. At least, as a musician, i never saw it.
Yea 7/8 is correct

I adore this song for its sort of "out of control", lowkey demented vibe.
Where the whole first part just sounds unsettling and your ears can't quite keep up.
And appropriately, he struggles to adjust to how chaotic (yet oddly orderly) it is - but does a _stunningly_ good job.
Did you learn the piece?
Yes.
What did it cost?
The time signature.
My motor-skill
even koishi's theme is doing koishi things
Love this theme from Touhou, second EX stage I ever beat perfect (after IN Mokou). The odd timing shows just how much skill the drummer has adapting to it.

Hartmann's youkai girl used random time signatures changing every second with randomness of chords to represent her "Nothing/Changeable" personality
It's not THAT random. It's just 4/4 and 7/4.
@@m-as9637 aren't there 7/8 with it?
@@RiRiRiPoks 7/8, 7/4, mostly the same, either way there's only two time signatures, and 7/8 (along with 5/4) is basically baby's first irregular time signature (so not that random).
That being said I will agree it's a pretty unique sounding 7/8.
It's surprising for him to quickly pick the beat for the first few seconds of the theme.
That 7/8
Have you even read the music score for it or study music theory? It's in 7/8. The whole phrase in the beginning repeats over 2 measures. The first measure consists of 3 eighth notes, 2 dotted-eighth notes and then an eighth note. The second measure is 7 eighth notes. Then it repeats.
I’m going to sound like a total moron, but he fucks the difference between 15/16 and 7/8?
@@Lh0000 Same as in math.
@@Lh0000 4/4 is 4 quarter notes per measure.
7/8 is 7 eighth notes per measure
15/16 is 15 16th notes per measure

Isn't it fun to see people learn, though?

@Jadon O'Neal 4/4. It swaps back and forth.
2周目で完璧に合わせてきて笑っちゃったww
やっぱりすげえや!
Im pretty sure the time signature is supposed to be really messed up, since Koishi's whole thing is messing with the subconscious mind.
She can stop people from being able to acknowledge her existence or even really remember her, and the music reflects that.

This is incredible
I recently started to play the drum, so I want to learn the techniques from your playing. But your drumming skills are too great to learn lol.
Awesome job! Very entertaining! :))))
Now wait for the Urban version
7/8 time signature moment
So, for the first few bars of the song the time is 7/8, and when that part repeats it's still in 7/8, but for the entire rest of the song it's 4/8 (2/4) (4/4)
Nailed it!
When he realizes that zun is such a musical genius despite his unorthodox way of doing things to the point not only does this song reversed sound close to satori maiden third eye but reverse ideology a theme from a different game for a girl who can flip things sounds virtually the same reversed or forward.
That's so cool
Very nice
Main section is 7/4. Other sections are 4/4.
Boi I would like to see that 11/8 someday B)
Now if someone made him play Vs Marx
In Koishi's theme is hard to find the time second to play it

It's definitely not 4/4 for the verse sections.
it sure does feel like it, though i can kind of tell it's not. It just doesn't seem wrong. I think it's 7/4 or something.

I also want to know.
let's wait
I figured it out. Try hitting your desk and try to create a good beat
sooo... 7/8, 2/4, 7/8, 2/4, 4/4 and back to 7/8?
No. It is 7/8 to 4/4 to 4/4 (third part) and then it repeats
How the hell do you guys identify the time signature, do you just train yourself too?
@@shwnu2141
Kind of. Some just 'can do that', but I think you can also develop a feeling for it over time with enough practice. Composing yourself helps a lot, too. :P

15/16 ayy lmao
It's in 7/8. The whole phrase in the beginning repeats over 2 measures.
The first measure consists of 3 eighth notes, 2 dotted-eighth notes and
then an eighth note. The second measure is 7 eighth notes. Then it
repeats.
Isn’t 15/16 the same as 4/4 then 7/8?
@@death2go539 I can't tell if this is satire because all 3 are completely different. 15/16 can sound like 7/8, but neither of them sound at all like 4/4.
4/4 is the standard, most music is in 4/4. It's just 4 crotchets in each bar.
7/8 compared to 4/4 has a 'missing' quaver each bar. According to music theory, it should be grouped in sets of 3-3-1 quavers, but modern music generally groups it 4-3 or 3-4, like you would with 7/4.
15/16 is 'missing' a semiquaver, and IMO it never really sounds right. 7/8 feels off, but 15/16 just sounds wrong.
This song changes between 7/8 and 4/4. If you try counting 4 crotchets, you'll be able to tell that the 7/8 parts feel like you're counting right, and then all of a sudden you're out of time, while the 4/4 parts are easy to count and make sense to your ears. Like I said before, 15/16 would feel like your heart just skipped a beat and it was meant to be 4/4 but every bar you sort of gloss over the last beat
@@jblen i think they mean 7/8 + 4/4 = 7/8 + 8/8 = 15/8 ~= 15/16 with different tempo
@@hopechr maybe, but that's still not how it works because the bars aren't alternating, it's 7/8 for a while then 4/4 for a while.
Also while you could technically say 15/8 ~ 15/16 at half tempo, but 15/16 would also half all the note values so in a piece like this, it would be pretty difficult to read the music, and there wouldn't be much reason to choose 15/16 and have it at half tempo when this piece's tempo otherwise is similar to zuns other pieces.
Now do it on reverse
